HAPPY EASTER!

(This photo was taken by Heather Oliver, a missionary here, on Easter morning in the prayer garden.)

I know it is late, but we were sick over the Easter weekend. I know many of you have prayed for us, and we thank you and Praise God. Typhoid sounds very serious, and it is if not treated. But thankfully we know some praying folks and a mighty God. We had what we thought was a stomach virus on Good Friday, Saturday, and Easter Sunday. By Sunday night we realized that something was not right. I asked several to pray. By Monday morning we were feeling better. One of the missionaries here asked James about the symptoms and said it sounded like Typhoid. Even though we felt better, we decided to go get tested. We were positive, so we began the antibiotics. We are feeling much better. Praise God! We are not on our death bed; we are very much alive. Jesus is alive and so are we. :-)

I don't realize how much time has passed since the last post until I get on to post again. Time is flying by so fast. It is hard to believe we have already been here 5 months. We were here last year during this time, but there was a drought. The rains are here this year, and the weather is sometimes cool (in the 60s). This feels really nice to us, but Ugandans are cold. They are wearing heavy coats and dressing their babies like it is 20 degrees. The baby on the right is sweet Daniella. She now weighs 10 lbs! She is growing and is healthy.

From James:

A few weeks ago I heard one of the young men at the medical center say that we were entering the Uganda winter. Now I thought that was just another hot time of year. Then the rain started, and it rains almost every other day. It cooled off some from 90/100 to 80, not the winter that we are used to, but I did pull up the sheet in bed once. But the locals react differently. The boda drivers were wearing thick jackets and hats with ear covers. The people at the medical center wear sweaters and scarves. One of the guards was wearing a jacket, and I was sweating. Just a part of reality here. Sometimes we need a reality check, so we can see that we are blessed and can see what God has blessed us with that I tend to take for granted. We had a young man to our cottage and were discussing his school. We asked if he would like a drink. When I pulled the coke out, he asked, "Is that a refrigerator?" He had never seen one.

Philippians 4:11 "Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content."

Sometimes we need to be reminded that we are blessed not only with things, but the love of God.

How many people does it take to repair a bicycle?

Apparently it takes four. James always gets lots of help when he is trying to fix something.

We had some excitement at the Village this weekend. A couple of the children found a chameleon. It liked James' head.

We also babysat this cutie for the weekend. We had a lot of fun, but this JaJa and Cooka were very tired.

Below is a picture of the Baby Class coming home from school. They are adorable. Left : Godfrey, a new resident. When he came he would not smile but now seems to happy. Middle: Majid - Dr. Brenda showed a video of Majid at our commissioning service. Right: Anna, one of the triplets of which we have told. They are walking with a housemother.

These are some children we saw in the little town down the street. James was buying potatoes and bananas. The little girl was trying to get his attention. Then the brother called her over and pointed to me. She saw me with the camera, and this is their pose.

I was invited to share the Gospel at the women's net ball tournament. While we were waiting James found some friends. They pulled his hood over his head.

This is how you haul 50 water jugs on a motorcyle.

This is a mountain on the way to Mbale where we received our driving permits.

God Bless you until next time. We love you all!
